(*) Hubert Thomas Godecker jumped overboard and was never recovered.

“By custom, a person was declared dead one year and a day after they went missing.  His actual date of death is November 14, 1943.”

BM2 Godecker is buried at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Republic of the Philippines.

The book Tin Can Sailor misidentifies James I. Grann, Jr. as MIA “M.”

Reference is James I. Grann III obituary who was born in 1946 to James I. Grann, Jr. and Lucille (Bowers) Grann.
