Bring on that Open Water!

Early February saw Sterett DDG 104 underway again - this time on her second sea trial - the rigorous INSURV Acceptance Trials. On this run, the harsh Maine winter had returned - in contrast to that brief reprieve from winter she had on the Alpha Trial completed 10 Jan 2008. Congratulations to the new Sterett crew, Bath Iron Works team, security and support craft that brought her out and back.

The Sterett Association is indeed fortunate to be able to bring these photo albums and the video clip to our website visitors. Bath, Maine natives, Dick Hart and wife Gayle were out there on the Kennebec River on time and in position to capture DDG 104's first departure and return on her overnight Alpha Sea Trials in early January and again upon her return from the 2nd trial on 8 Feb 2008 (See Slide Show 3 on left).

Departure day on the Alpha trial (See Slide Show 1) was somewhat of a challenge, despite a warm front going through. "High winds and rain made taking photos difficult even with a compensating camera" Bright skies opened, however, the next day for the ship's first return from sea (See Slide Show 2 or the Video clip) . I am sure all will agree they are beauties - some real prize winners - especially those "ship on the horizon" and river bend shots. Truly outstanding!
