|
It was under Captain Hilton's command, that Sterett operationally spearheaded the introduction of the new LAMPS (Light Airborne Multi-purpose system) Seaprite helicopter into the Pacific Fleet. The new LAMPS proved to be a significant asset in Tonkin Gulf operations in response to the 1972 NVA Easter Offensive and in support of Operation Linebacker that year. "The arrival of LAMPS means that STERETT will become the home for a detachment of from Helicopter Combat Support Squadron FIVE (HC-5). Four pilots and thirteen enlisted men will become a part of the STERETT family and we welcome them." -Captain Jack Hilton's 15 Nov 71 "Letter to Families and Friends" of Sterett Crew.
