The signal bridge on the USS Sterett was on the same level as the bridge. This deck was located aft of the deckhouse containing CIC. All the conventional ship to ship signalling was dine here. This included the hoisting of signal flags and semaphore signals (the familiar morse coded flashing light. On each wing of the signal bridge was the "flag bag" were the many and colorful signal flags were stowed. This was also the home of the "Big Eyes", powerful pedestal mounted binoculars. This location was a popular hangout for the crew, especially when pulling into port. A look around with the Big Eyes was a treat. A small enclosed "signalman's shack" was along the cenerline. A unique feature of this deck was it's open-air urinal on the starboard side. In later years, post 1991, the electrical shore power hookups were connected here.
