STERETT carried four ship's boats in davits. Two to starboard and two to port at amidships. The exact compliment of boats changed over the 27 years of Sterett's life. As originally equipped, on the starboard side was a utility boat and a motorized whale-boat while the port side carried the captain's gig and and officer's launch. Later when Sterett became a flag ship and routinely carried an admiral on board, an Admiral's barge was carried, thus necessitating the removal of one of the other boats.
