Sterett as built in 1967 had two 3 inch 50 caliber guns. These guns were manually controlled by optical site type directors. These director stations were located just forward of the after mack. A single operator manned each of the two director stations. When the 3 inch guns were replaced by harpoon missile launchers, the directors were removed also but the tubs they occupied remained in place until 1991 when they also were removed.
