Sterett Newsletter

 October 16, 2005=20

Shipmates and friends,

The Sterett Association has committed itself to upgrading and enhancing =
the Sterett web site. Shipmate and Webmaster, Elden Miller is in the =
process of moving the entire web content to a new web hosting company =
and revitalizing the data in it as well. As a result, you may =
temporarily experience some glitches when you go to the web site. We =
will now be available not only at http://www.sterett.org/ but at =
http://www.sterett.net/ as well. While the Internet tries to catch up =
with our rapid move, visit us at http://www.sterett.net/ if sterett.org =
is unavailable.

Not all the content has been moved yet but most of the most popular =
content has. Some reorganization was in order and you may have to =
navigate the site differently. The focus of the Association and the web =
site will remain as you, our shipmates and friends. Your input and =
comments are very important to us. You can contact Elden (the webmaster =
and architect) at webmaster@sterett.net.

We are renewing our efforts to update our database and hopefully be able =
to more effectively communicate with you. A lot of the data we have =
amassed since 1998 and the founding of the Association has gone =
unvalidated. As a result, we have lost contact with many of our =
shipmates and friends. We are asking all of you to visit our new =
membership page at http://sterett.net/public/shipmate_form.htm and give =
us your updated information for our confidential files.

A major change coming up is the inclusion of a members-only portion of =
the web site. It is here that a lot of the old content will be stored. =
This area will be open to the public until January 1, 2006 when our new =
membership year begins. After that date, only members of the Association =
will have access to this content. We urge all of you to visit the site, =
review the new membership form and join us as a member of the Sterett =
Association. Don't delay; the New Year will be upon us very soon! Each =
new association member will be eligible to receive a personalized email =
address @sterett.net. We are instituting the members-only web space as a =
way to provide our shipmates a more secure and safe computing =
environment where your personal information is held in strictest of =
confidence but still enable you to freely communicate with fellow =
members. As you know, the Internet is full of shady characters, spammers =
and others who seek to do nothing but interfere with your ability to =
surf the web safely. The Sterett Association is doing all it can to =
protect you while providing as much information as possible.

Another new focus of the Association will be the building, launching and =
commissioning of the newest Sterett DDG-104, being built at Bath =
Ironworks in Bath, Maine. We will have a very major role in welcoming =
and supporting these new Sterett crewmen. A special web site will be =
established solely for these active-duty shipmates to utilize.

Our ship's store will also have its own Website at =
http://www/sterett-store.com. This space has yet been populated but will =
be available soon.

Thanks again for all your support and we look forward to serving you =
better with our new web sites.
