The Crew of DDG-104 is forming quickly and your Association Officers are in frequent contact with the PCO, CDR Brian Eckerle.  Brian and his crew are currently in various schools in preparation for their arrival in Bath next year.  Recently, CDR Eckerle shared the new Sterett crest with us and asked that we pass it along to all Association members.

Background

The crest was designed by the The Institute of Heraldry, U.S. Army, is located at Fort Belvoir, a military installation within the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C.

The mission of the Institute is to furnish heraldic services to the Armed Forces and other United States government organizations, including the Executive Office of the President. The activities of the Institute encompass research, design, development, standardization, quality control, and other services relating to official symbolic items--seals, decorations, medals, insignia, badges, flags, and other items awarded to or authorized for official wear or display by government personnel and agencies. Limited research and information services concerning official symbolic items are also provided to the general public.

Design notes

The Institute of Heraldry used the SWORD and EYEGLASS,  that was on the DLG/CG 31 Crest as well as the  "FOREVER DAUNTLESS"  motto at the request of CDR Eckerle, as he and CMC Johnston,  wanted to proudly display the DLG/CG 31 heritage.  The 3 stars above the trident represents the previous 3 STERETTs. The Red Star represents the MIG shot down by DLG 31. The circle of stars represents the battlestars from the previous ships
