Sterett Association Quarterly Update January 4, 2008
Happy 2008 - Sterett Shipmates!
It's been seven months since Sterett DDG-104's Christening in Bath. Past President John King has kept in touch with the crew and Captain Eckerle. John reports the fitting out is going as planned. Information has it that the Sterett will go to her first Sea Trial January 9th if the ice is clear in the river (more on this below).
I know we all wish her Captain and crew calm seas and smooth sailing.
MembershipWe have 65 Association Members in good standing (see the full list below). Unfortunately this means that we have no record of receiving a payment from the other 152 members as of Jan 4th. Membership lapses are normal coming off the Reunion year.
You can conveniently pay your dues for 2008 and future years by using PayPal, via the Association's website, at::
Please review the attached list and let us know if there is any error in your dues payment and we'll get it squared away.
Note:
There was a delay converting our PayPay account to our new Treasurer. Unfortunately this led to at least one incident between Sep and Nov where a payment was made, not accepted, and finally returned to the payer. If you feel there is another error in the attached listing, please contact our new Treasurer, Dennis Dean, at commercial@dennis-dean.com .

Bring on that Open Water!
We are happy to learn that DDG-104 is slated to reach another milestone next Wednesday January 9th when she is scheduled to get underway on the open water for the first time and transit out of Casco Bay on her Alpha Sea Trials. This is normally a fairly short day run with that check list of key initial tests to complete. If successful, it will be soon be followed by several other more lengthly sea trials in months ahead as General Dynamics shipbuilders and the new crew work together in carrying out the rigorous testing necessary in preparing the ship for acceptance into the Fleet.
We hope to keep you updated on progress in these final phases of ship construction with coverage on the Sterett Web site and the newsletter. Check the web site in another week or so and we hope to have this covered! The crew and yard workers will be real busy!
Commissioning Planned for Aug 9, 2008John's last communication with the Captain indicates the Commissioning is planned for Baltimore. John has also provided details surrounding the planned event.
As we did in the 2007 Reunion , when more details became available, they will be communicated to you with updates on our web site and upcoming newsletters.
Note: We need to start planning our participation in Baltimore and the Association needs volunteers to coordinate our visit. Anyone who is willing to assist in this process please call me. (Wayne McBrian 603-512-6516)
Reunion Spring 2009All signs continue to point to San Diego as the Sterett DDG-104's first homeport and is where we plan to hold our next Sterett Reunion. Having said that, the following people have volunteered to be the next reunion committee. California here we come!
