Elden
at the 2003 Reunion
In
1998 our Shipmate Elden Miller set out to
create an online community for the purpose of connecting former Shipmates of all
ships name Sterett. He succeeded magnificently and now the Sterett site ranks
among the finest ship association web sites on the Net. More than just
technical prowess, Elden's heart and soul were poured into the Association as we
endeavored to make DLG/CG-31 into a permanent floating museum and memorial.
When that opportunity vanished, and Sterett headed for Brownsville, Elden
proceeded to further enhance the site since Sterett must now live on in
Cyberspace, rather that steel decking. He integrated Paypal into the site,
improved content and began the practice of sending monthly e-mail updates to all
of us. The site flourished under our Founding
Member Emeritus' fine and steady hand. Elden is now off for other
challenges and vistas. He reluctantly and respectfully submitted his retirement
papers as Webmaster of the Association site effective August 1, 2006. We will
miss his contributions, but his seminal work will live forever as the USS
Sterett Association web site. Please join me in recognizing the great
contributions our our friend and shipmate Elden
Miller.
We are now in need of a keeper of the keys for the site and hope that an
Association member with the requisite skills and the minimal time required will
step forward to assume the task.
