PROTECTING FREEDOM  -  HONORING AMERICAN NAVAL HEROS THAT LED THE WAY

May 4, 2004

Secretary of the Navy Gordon England released the names of the five newest U.S. Navy destroyers who will honor legendary American naval heroes, of which Sterett is one.

Shipbuilding was contracted to General Dynamics at the Bath Iron Works (BIW) Yard in Bath, Maine and to Northrup Grumman Ship Systems' Ingalls Operations at the NGSS Ingalls Ops yard in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
